anna nicole hangover

Seriously. I REALLY wish there was something more news worthy than Anna Nicole Smith right now. Not to degrade her tragedy, but isn't it sad that when a classy celebrity such as Bob Hope or Katherine Hepburn or anyone of that nature dies there is a simple obituary, nothing too extravagant, but when a Tabloid star dies it's plastered on every cable news channel as if there aren't several wars in the Middle East, Genocide and AIDS in Africa, a James Bond Villain-like Madman who wants to send Nuclear weapons across the Pacific Ocean from North Korea, or that the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps are melting. No, what everyone wants to know is not only if she actually took one TOO many pills, but who the father of her baby is. Which is a list growing as long as the 2008 presidential candidate list. "Oh, honey, do you think I should see if I'm Anna Nicole's baby's father? What's the kid's name again?" Are you KIDDING me? When Gerald Ford died a month ago, he got a day, maybe two of some coverage and memorium of his life. He was a President! ...albeit a short term, but still... When I talked to my mom the other day, she said she called one of her friends and instead of saying, "Hey it's me!" she said, "So who do you think is the father to Anna Nicole's baby?"

I'm starting to get scared though, because these media frenzies always seem to hit in a boring time before something cataclysmic happens... when a news drought occurs, something major seems to be around the corner. Does anyone remember what the biggest news story was on September 10th, 2001? Well, rewind to that day and people would say, "oh, God, if I have to hear another pundit talk about Chandra Levy I'm gonna kill myself." Now people are like, "Who?" or "Oh, yeah, I think that name rings a bell." I don't need to say what happened the next day, other than it happened to wipe that story off the face of the map. I just hope that some actual news is scrounged up, and fast.

Hey! at least the Oscars are just around the corner?
